tHE FACTS
The numbers of Giraffe
herds are decreasing dramatically. Illegal hunting, human
interference with land and game hunting has led to a 40% decrease in
the worldwide giraffe population in only the past decade. The West
African plains used to be swarming with Giraffes, 100 animals each
herd, now each only has two to ten members. If this decline keeps
consisting, in another 100 years giraffes would be extinct. What
would the world be like with one of the most iconic animals just a
legend to future generations?
The Rothschild’s Giraffe is the most endangered species of giraffe, found in Uganda and Kenya, there is only a population of 600 still in the wild. This species of giraffe is protected and intensive breeding programs have been developed to raise the population. There are 20,100 more ‘endangered tigers’ and almost 17,000 more white rhinos left in the wild than the Rothschild’s giraffes. People are aware of the limited amount of tigers and white rhinos in the wild, but what about the very slim number of Rothschild’s giraffes?
